Uganda Mourns Renowned UK-Based Fertility Expert, Dr. David Otim-Oyet

TEGONY, OYAM DISTRICT — Uganda and the global medical fraternity are in mourning following the death of one of their most distinguished sons, Dr. David Otim-Oyet (RIP). The celebrated consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist will be laid to rest on May 23rd in Tegong, Oyam District, in a burial ceremony expected to draw dignitaries, medical leaders, and grateful patients from across the world.

Until his untimely passing, Dr. Otim-Oyet stood as a titan of reproductive medicine in the United Kingdom, where he served as the Medical Director at the Herts and Essex Fertility Centre—one of the UK’s most prestigious and successful IVF clinics.

A Legacy of Healing and Innovation

Dr. Otim-Oyet was not merely a doctor; he was a beacon of hope for countless families battling infertility. His expertise spanned the most demanding fields of women’s health, including:

· Infertility & Reproductive Medicine

· Advanced Minimal Access (Keyhole) Gynaecology Surgery

· Gynaecological Ultrasound & Oncology

· Psychosexual Medicine

His pioneering work in keyhole surgery and fertility treatments earned him a reputation as a world-class clinician who brought the same passion to a patient in London as he did to communities in rural Uganda.

Excellence Recognised Globally

Holding an MB ChB from Moi University (1999), membership (MRCOG), and ultimately a Fellowship (FRCOG) from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Dr. Otim-Oyet’s qualifications were a testament to a lifetime of academic and clinical excellence. His peers and patients recognised this brilliance: he maintained a near-perfect 4.98/5 rating on Doctify, drawn from over 474 reviews, and was consistently listed among the top doctors in the UK.

A Nation's Loss

As the sun sets on Oyam District this May 23rd, Uganda does not just bury a doctor. It lays to rest a hero who proved that a child from northern Uganda could rise to lead one of Europe's leading fertility centres. His greatest legacy is the thousands of babies born, the families restored, and the young Ugandan medics he inspired.

May his soul rest in eternal power and peace.

David Otim-Oyet (RIP) was a brother to Rtd Col Charles Olaka and a member of Omolo Acol Odyek Onywal Iceng.

He hails from Iceme Town Council in Oyam
