UCI School of Nursing and Midwifery-Lira Reopens with Call for Excellence as Students Return From Break

LIRA CITY, Uganda — A new chapter has begun for hundreds of aspiring healthcare professionals as UCI School of Nursing and Midwifery-Lira officially welcomed both newly admitted and continuing students for the new academic semester with the institution challenging them to pursue excellence, discipline, and professionalism in a career dedicated to saving lives.

The reopening comes at a time when Uganda continues to face a growing demand for qualified nurses and midwives, making the training of competent health workers more important than ever.

Addressing the media during the official opening ceremony, the Chief Executive Director of UCI School of Nursing and Midwifery-Lira, Sam Omara, applauded students for reporting on time and urged them to embrace the values of hard work, integrity, and commitment throughout their academic journey.

 "You have chosen one of the most respected and life-saving professions in the world. Stay focused on your studies, remain disciplined, and use every opportunity to gain the knowledge and practical skills that will enable you to serve humanity with compassion and professionalism," Omara said.

He reminded students that success in nursing and midwifery requires determination, sacrifice, and continuous learning, encouraging them to attend lectures regularly, participate actively in clinical practice, and uphold the ethical standards expected of future healthcare professionals.

Omara also appealed to students who had not yet reported to campus to do so without delay, warning that missing the opening weeks of the semester could affect their academic progress.

"We encourage every student who has not yet returned to report immediately. Every lecture, practical lesson, and clinical session is essential in preparing competent health workers who can confidently serve communities across Uganda and beyond," he added.

The institution reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality education through experienced tutors, modern teaching approaches, well-equipped learning facilities, and supervised clinical placements that expose students to real-life healthcare environments.

Parents and guardians were commended for their continued investment in education despite economic challenges. The school management pledged to work closely with families to ensure students complete their studies successfully and graduate as skilled healthcare professionals.

As the new semester gets underway, UCI School of Nursing and Midwifery-Lira says it remains committed to producing competent, ethical, and compassionate nurses and midwives capable of strengthening Uganda's healthcare system and responding to the growing medical needs of communities across the country.
