Following earlier concerns about student safety highlighted by the Gaba Day Care incident in Kampala, another tragic case has emerged in Northern Uganda, deepening national reflection on violence within learning institutions.

A Senior Four student at Abongomola Seed Secondary School in Kwania District has died after being violently assaulted by fellow students in an incident linked to allegations of theft.

The incident occurred on April 29, 2026, at approximately 12:00am at the school located in Ogwok A Village, Ogwok Parish, Abongomola Sub-county in the Lango sub-region.

According to an official police report, the deceased has been identified as Lukori Solomon, a 21-year-old boarding student and resident of Imeny Village in Chawente Sub-county.

The case was reported to authorities by the school’s deputy headteacher, Adupa Steven. Preliminary findings shared by North Kyoga Regional Police indicate that Lukori was accused by fellow students of stealing property from the boys’ dormitory.

In response, a group of students reportedly overpowered school security personnel and chased him for about 400 metres towards Ogwok Trading Centre. He was apprehended and allegedly beaten using sticks and bricks, sustaining critical injuries. He was later taken back to the school premises and placed in a staff room, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed that a case of suspected murder by mob action has been registered at Abongomola Sub-county Police Station and is now under investigation by Kwania Central Police Station.

A team led by the District Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations, alongside homicide detectives and Scene of Crime Officers, visited the site to document evidence. Statements have been recorded from the school administration, the deceased’s family, and other witnesses. The body was transported to Aduku Health Centre IV for a postmortem

Police comfirmed the arrest of two student leaders to assist with ongoing investigations.

Call for Calm and Due Process

Police have strongly condemned mob justice, emphasizing that such actions are unlawful and undermine the justice system. Community members and students are being urged to report suspected wrongdoing through proper legal channels rather than taking matters into their own hands.

Legal provisions allow citizens to apprehend suspects and hand them over to authorities, but any form of violence outside the law is punishable.

Broader Concerns and Prevention

This incident has raised broader concerns about discipline, conflict resolution, and supervision in schools. Education stakeholders and community leaders in the Lango sub-region are being encouraged to strengthen guidance systems, promote dialogue among students, and ensure that school environments remain safe and supportive.

Experts note that addressing underlying issues such as peer pressure, lack of conflict resolution mechanisms, and inadequate supervision can help prevent similar tragedies. There are also calls for increased collaboration between schools, parents, and local authorities to reinforce non-violent approaches to discipline and accountability.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure that all responsible individuals are held accountable under the law.
