From Lira to the World: Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery–Lira Welcomes New Students

Lira City, Uganda: Uganda leading Healthcare Institution, Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery–Lira has welcomed a new cohort of students joining the institution for the July 2026 intake, marking another milestone in its contribution to the training of nurses and midwives in Uganda.

The arrival of the new students has created excitement within the school community as learners begin a new chapter of academic and professional preparation in the health sector.

The institution has continued to attract students from Lira City, the wider Lango sub-region and other parts of Uganda who are seeking professional training in nursing and midwifery.

As the new students settle into their programmes, the school administration is expected to guide them through academic orientation, practical training and the professional standards required in the health-care sector.

Nursing and midwifery remain critical professions in Uganda, particularly as the country continues to strengthen access to quality maternal, newborn and general health services.

Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery–Lira is positioning itself as part of this effort by providing students with an opportunity to acquire knowledge, practical skills and professional experience needed to serve communities.

The July 2026 intake also reflects the growing interest among young Ugandans in pursuing health-related careers, with many viewing nursing and midwifery as professions that can provide opportunities to serve communities both locally and internationally.

Speaking during the welcoming activities, the school leadership encouraged the new students to remain disciplined, committed and focused on their studies, emphasizing that success in nursing and midwifery requires both academic excellence and a strong sense of responsibility.

The students will undertake classroom learning alongside practical and clinical experiences designed to prepare them for the realities of working in health facilities.

For many of the new entrants, joining Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery marks the beginning of a journey from the classroom to professional service, with aspirations of eventually contributing to Uganda's health system and, for some, pursuing opportunities beyond the country's borders.

With the new cohort now on board, the institution's message remains clear: training health professionals in Lira who can serve Uganda and compete for opportunities across the world.

From Lira to the World

The welcoming of the July 2026 intake is therefore more than an academic event. It represents the beginning of a professional journey for a new generation of aspiring nurses and midwives whose skills could make a difference in communities across Uganda and beyond.

Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery–Lira continues to welcome students determined to build careers in health care and become part of the next generation of health professionals.

The Cheif Executive Director of Victoria School Of Nursing and Midwifery-Lira comfirmed development. He said the besides the arrival of new students, they have also received continuing students from break.
