Lira City, Uganda — Members of the Pakistan Association Uganda  Lira have joined the ongoing National Cleaning Exercise, contributing brooms and protective gear to support efforts aimed at improving sanitation and environmental cleanliness in the city.

The association participated in the exercise as part of its community engagement initiative, working alongside residents and other stakeholders to clean public spaces and promote responsible waste management.

During the exercise, the Pakistan Association Lira Uganda donated brooms and protective equipment to participants through their community leaders.

The initiative has been welcomed as a demonstration of the association's commitment to giving back to the community and supporting public health and environmental protection by Lira City Authorities.

Speaking during the activity, members of the association encouraged residents to view cleanliness as a shared responsibility rather than an activity limited to designated cleaning days.

They further thanked the government of Uganda for promoting hygiene and sanitation in the country.

They emphasized that maintaining clean surroundings can contribute to better public health, reduce the spread of sanitation-related diseases and improve the general appearance of Lira City.

The association also called upon businesses, institutions, community groups and individual residents to actively participate in sanitation activities and adopt proper waste disposal practices.

The National Cleaning Exercise brings together communities, local authorities, organizations and other stakeholders to address waste management and sanitation challenges across the country.

Every Saturday end of the month, Uganda government has marked as a special public Holiday for promoting Hygiene and sanitation.

In Lira City, such community-led initiatives are increasingly being seen as important in complementing the efforts of city authorities to maintain clean streets, markets, drainage channels and other public spaces.

The participation of the Pakistan Association Lira Uganda adds to growing calls for stronger partnerships between the business community, civil society, residents and local government in addressing urban sanitation challenges.

The association's donation of cleaning tools and protective gear is expected to support continued community participation beyond the exercise, with stakeholders urging residents to sustain the culture of cleanliness in their neighborhoods.

The message from the exercise was clear: a clean Lira City requires collective responsibility, consistent action and active participation from every section of the community.
