Lira, Uganda — The police and security agencies in the Lango sub-region have issued a stern warning to supporters of the Uganda People's Congress (UPC) in Lango against organizing or participating in any illegal demonstrations.

This warning comes in response to intelligence reports indicating that some UPC supporters are allegedly planning to incite riots on September 29, 2025, starting in Lira City and potentially spreading to other districts within North Kyoga. These plans are reportedly linked to the absence of Jimmy Michael James Akena from the upcoming presidential ballot.

According to sources, the intended gathering point for supporters is at the home of UPC President Jimmy Akena in Senior Quarters, Lira City. However, authorities clarify that no official notifications have been received by the Office of the Inspector General of Police regarding such plans. As such, any attempt to hold unauthorized demonstrations is considered illegal and will be met with strict legal action.

The security agencies reassured the residents of Lango and North Kyoga that the region remains peaceful and safe. They emphasized that any individuals attempting to disrupt this peace will face firm repercussions under the law.

Citizens are urged to remain vigilant, uphold the rule of law, and report any suspicious activities or persons with intentions of violence or unrest to the nearest police station immediately.

All security forces have been directed to act decisively to prevent any unlawful gatherings and to maintain order across the region.

In a statement to the media, JP Okema, North Kyoga Police Relations Officer, affirmed that police officers are on standby to prevent and respond to any illegal activities. He also urged the UPC to follow proper channels and procedures should they wish to express grievances related to Jimmy Akena's absence from the ballot.

The authorities reiterate their commitment to peace and stability in the region, calling on all political actors and citizens to prioritize dialogue and lawful means of expressing their views.
