Warning shot to architects of cultural doom
The is an opinion from Mr. Etwop Jackson, a senior consultant on Urban Development, Conflict Management and Policy Making.
Lira, Uganda : To every son and daughter of Lango, at home and across the diaspora, hear this clearly. Our patience has expired. Our heritage is bleeding out. The so-called cultural institutions that were meant to unite us have become arenas of ego, infighting, and political theater driven by demagogues. We are exhausted from being mocked as a foolish tribe, tired of watching opportunists wear our culture as a costume while stripping it of its soul. The time for silence is over.
It is no longer a secret.
These fractured cultural bodies have been deliberately infiltrated and repurposed by individuals whose true loyalties, professional mandates, and personal ambitions lie entirely outside our tradition’s, “charlatans”.
Sitting and retired civil servants, political appointees, parliamentarians, academic title-holders, and religious functionaries have masqueraded as custodians while treating sacred platforms as retirement annexes, political springboards, and personal branding exercises. They did not come to preserve our heritage; they came to harvest it. They have confused bureaucratic rank with ancestral authority, turned communal trust into political capital, and reduced our living culture to a spectacle of division. The result is plain: a tribe laughed at, labeled uncultured, and forced to watch its own foundations burn while self-appointed leaders fight over titles that belong to none of them.
The era of competing chairmanships, factional boards, and politically backed cultural titles ends today. No more infighting from these “architects of cultural fog.” No more dual mandates. No more external actors using our culture as a cover for personal elevation. Until the current warring parties surrender these hijacked platforms and publicly acknowledge the damage they have caused, Lango shall operate without any overarching cultural representative beyond the recognized Clan Heads.
Should the entrenched factions continue to drag our name through the mud, cultural stewardship will default to a strict, transparent six-month rotation among legitimate Clan Heads. Power will not be monopolized. It will be shared, cycled, and held to account. Leadership will no longer be a lifetime appointment for the politically connected; it will be a temporary duty for the culturally grounded.
If these warring parties refuse to step aside, the Lango people within Uganda and across the globe will be formally summoned to a grand assembly.
We will publicly strip all recognition from illegitimate bodies “the masked merchants of confusion”. We will petition the relevant government authorities to formally degazette, derecognize, and withdraw all state endorsements, funding, and ceremonial privileges from these compromised institutions No platform. No legitimacy.
No protection. The collective voice of Lango will no longer be held hostage by self-appointed custodians.
Those who claim to lead us must now learn to lead by our standards, not their ambitions. If you cannot separate your political career, civil service rank, religious office, or academic title from cultural duty, step aside. Return the culture to the people who live it, not those who exploit it. The time for masquerades is over. We will no longer allow outsiders and opportunists to dictate what it means to be Lango.
We are done being the laughing stock of our own making from these “cultural-political manipulators.” We are done letting cultural infighting weaken our social fabric while opportunists’ profit from our name. The clans will speak. The people will decide. Lango’s culture belongs to Lango’s people nothing less, nothing more.
Heed this warning.
Act accordingly. The next move belongs to the collective.
