Sad News As Another Bus Gets Involved In An Accident, Deaths & Injuries Recorded

Tragedy has struck along the Mbale-Soroti Highway after a deadly road accident involving a Gateway bus and a fuel tanker left four people dead and several others injured. The Friday morning crash has caused concern among road users following reports of multiple casualties at the scene.

The accident happened on October 30, 2026, at Okuma in Bukedea District after a head-on collision between a Scania Gateway bus, registration number UA 359AN, and a fuel tanker bearing registration numbers KDW154U/ZJ2266. The bus belongs to Gateway Bus Company and was reportedly travelling towards Soroti at the time of the incident.

According to preliminary information, the fuel tanker was travelling from the Soroti side towards Mbale when it collided with the passenger bus. The impact was severe, leaving four people confirmed dead, while several passengers sustained injuries and required urgent medical attention.

ASP Sowanyala Obadiya, the South Kyoga Regional Traffic Officer, confirmed the accident and revealed that the identities of the deceased had not yet been established. He said police were still gathering information about the incident as investigations continued.

The traffic officer further disclosed that approximately 15 passengers who were travelling aboard the Gateway bus were rushed to Bukedea Teaching Hospital for treatment. Other injured passengers were taken to Bukedea Health Centre IV, where they received medical attention.

Preliminary accounts suggest that the fuel tanker driver may have moved out of his lane towards the side occupied by the bus, resulting in the deadly collision. However, police are yet to establish the exact circumstances that led to the crash and have indicated that a detailed report would be provided as more information becomes available.

ASP Obadiya explained that the tanker was heading towards Mbale while the Gateway bus was travelling in the direction of Soroti. He said investigators would continue examining the circumstances surrounding the collision to establish what exactly happened before the two vehicles crashed.

The accident adds to growing concerns over road safety, particularly on major highways connecting different parts of the country. Families of the victims and those injured are now awaiting further information as police continue investigations into the tragic Bukedea crash.
