My Husband Can"t Start a Rebellion” – Elwelu’s Wife Breaks Silence Again, Narrates How Her Husband Disappeared From Home

Patricia Apolot, the wife of retired Lieutenant General Peter Elwelu, has come out strongly to defend her husband against allegations that he is involved in plans to organise an armed rebellion against the Ugandan government. Apolot insists that the man she has lived with for years has no intention of taking up arms and wants to see a peaceful Uganda.

Speaking after a security operation at their residence in Awoja, Soroti District, Apolot explained that Elwelu had left their village home for Kampala about two weeks earlier. She said he told her he was going to spend time praying, adding that such extended periods of prayer were normal in their marriage.

According to Apolot, her husband sometimes spends one or even two weeks away from home while praying. She reportedly gave this explanation to the security officers who visited their residence looking for the retired military officer and questioning her about his whereabouts.

When asked whether she believed Elwelu could be involved in rebellion activities, Apolot dismissed the possibility. She maintained that her husband had long looked forward to retirement and had no desire to fight the government or destabilise the country.

“My husband is innocent and cannot, even for a minute, think of starting a rebellion. He loves Uganda, and his dream is to have a peaceful country,” she said, as quoted by New Vision.

Apolot also described the security operation at their Awoja home, saying officers arrived at around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. She said some were dressed in military uniform while others wore civilian clothes, and that they questioned her before taking away her two mobile phones and those belonging to her sisters.

The kickboxer said she was not physically assaulted but claimed that she and other people at the residence were kept indoors for several days. She explained that the active search lasted approximately three hours, although security personnel remained at the home and restricted their movements before eventually allowing her to go out and buy food.

She further denied reports that guns and ammunition had been recovered from the property, insisting that no weapons were found. Apolot also explained that the soldiers who usually guarded their home had been sent on leave by Elwelu before his departure, saying he followed the same practice whenever he travelled for extended prayer sessions. She added that their other home in Anyara, Kalaki District, had often hosted worshippers.

Elwelu, who previously served as Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, is reportedly wanted over allegations of involvement in organising an armed rebellion. His wife's public defence comes amid growing attention surrounding his whereabouts and the security operations at properties associated with him. The allegations against him remain to be established through the relevant legal processes.
