Youthful UPC Ogwang Joshua Odit Declares Candidacy Against Incumbent MP, Vows to Prioritize Development in Lira West Division

Lira, Uganda – In a bold move that has stirred the political landscape of Lira West Division, Ogwang Joshua Odit, a youthful and dynamic carder of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), has officially declared his intention to contest for the Member of Parliament (MP) seat in the upcoming elections.
Odit who will be challenging the incumbent MP, Sadrick Obong Eyit, is promising a fresh wave of development and transformative leadership for the constituency.
Speaking at Grand Paffic Hotel in Lira City before the a large crwod of journalists, Ogwang Odit, a vibrant and passionate UPC member, outlined his vision for Lira West Division, emphasizing his commitment to addressing the pressing needs of the community.
He criticized the current leadership for what he described as "stagnation and lack of tangible development," vowing to bring change if elected.
Odit’s campaign is centered on a robust development agenda, with a focus on key areas such as:
Education: Odit pledged to improve access to quality education by advocating for better school facilities, scholarships for needy students, and enhanced teacher training programs.
He said he will support and introduce school feeding program to boost enrollment in public schools and performances.
He emphasized the need to equip the youth with skills for the modern job market.
Healthcare:
The youthful aspirant promised to prioritize healthcare services by pushing for the construction and equipping of health centers, ensuring the availability of essential medicines, and improving access to clean water and sanitation.
Infrastructure Development:
Odit highlighted the poor state of roads and other infrastructure in the constituency, promising to lobby for the construction of better roads, bridges, and drainage systems to boost economic activities and connectivity.
Youth Empowerment:
Recognizing the high unemployment rate among young people, Odit vowed to create youth empowerment programs, including vocational training, access to startup capital, and support for agricultural initiatives.
Economic Growth:
He promised to support local businesses, farmers, and traders by improving access to markets, providing affordable credit facilities, and promoting value addition for agricultural products.
His declaration sets the stage for a competitive race as he takes on the incumbent MP, who has held the seat for the past term. While the incumbent has touted their achievements during their tenure, Odit argues that more can be done to improve the lives of the people in Lira West Division.
He called on the electorate to embrace change and give him the mandate to deliver on his promises.
At a relatively young age, Odit represents a new generation of leaders seeking to bring fresh ideas and energy to Ugandan politics. His candidacy has already garnered support from the youth, who see him as a relatable and visionary leader. The UPC party has also thrown its weight behind him, expressing confidence in his ability to deliver on the party’s ideals of unity, peace, and development.
