UPC To Hold Virtual Delegates Conference

UPC Changes Planned Extraordinary Delegates Conference from Physical to Virtual 

Kampala, Uganda : President Akena Jimmy has announced a change in the format of the upcoming Extraordinary Delegates Conference, shifting from a physical gathering to a virtual event.

In a letter dated July 24th, 2025, addressed to Uganda Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi and copied to the Internal Affairs Minister and the Inspector General of Police, Akena stated that the party is acting in accordance with guidance issued by the IGP. Consequently, the party has decided to hold the delegates conference online.

On Thursday morning, North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema told Voice of Lango FM that they had not received any official notification from the UPC party about the conference. He added that they only learned about it through local radio broadcasts.

Okema emphasized that the conference will only be permitted if the party formally notifies the Uganda Police Force.
