Otuke ARDC Opio Opeo Urges Teachers To Avoid Unnecessary Loan Borrowing

Otuke ARDC Opio Opeo Cautions Teachers Over Multiple Loans During School Inspection
By HARON OKWIR
Otuke, Uganda : In a proactive effort to enhance the quality of education in Otuke District, local stakeholders have initiated regular school inspections. The activities commenced this week, with inspections carried out at Amele Primary School in Okwang Town Council and Barjobi Primary School in Barjobi Town Council.
In an interview with our reporter at his office on Wednesday, 23rd July 2025, Isaac Opio Opeo, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) of Otuke, explained that the purpose of these inspections is to monitor the state of education and identify areas for improvement within the district.
He noted that both schools inspected have good infrastructure and a conducive environment, including well-maintained compounds that help guide pupils on proper behavior at school. Opio also highlighted that pupils are receiving meals at school, aligning with the Ministry of Education and Sports' guidelines. He commended the PTA, teachers, and parents for their collective efforts in supporting education.
A notable observation was that Amele Primary School is attracting learners from the neighboring districts such as Alebtong, Agago, and Lira, which Opio described as a positive development for the district.
However, Opio issued a caution to teachers regarding absenteeism and advised them against taking multiple loans. He warned that accumulating too many loans could lead to financial difficulties, potentially causing teachers to leave their positions when they are unable to repay the debts, thereby disrupting lessons and school operations.
Additionally, he urged some teachers to pursue further studies to enhance their qualifications, emphasizing that continuous professional development benefits both teachers and students.
Concluding the inspection, Opio praised the Ugandan government under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the implementation of Universal Primary Education (UPE) programs across Uganda. He advised headteachers to ensure accurate reporting of student enrollment during inspections.
Participants in the inspection included Isaac Opio Opeo, Assistant RDC; Mr. James Ingoi, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO); Bosco Areng, School Inspector; and Madam Lucy Acheng, District Education Officer (DEO) of Otuke District.
