From Opposition Stronghold to NRM Beacon: Leaders Hail Hon. Nekyon Isaac Odongo, Urge President To Appoint Him
Apac District, Uganda – Once widely regarded as an opposition stronghold, Apac District is undergoing a notable political shift, a transformation many local leaders attribute to the efforts of Hon. Nekyon Isaac Odongo. Described by supporters as a dynamic leader, influential mobilizer, and strategic political actor, Nekyon has played a significant role in strengthening the presence and visibility of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) across the district.
During the 2026 general elections, his mobilization strategies are credited with helping consolidate support for the party, particularly in areas that had historically leaned toward the opposition. Political observers in the region note that his grassroots engagement and consistent outreach helped restore confidence among voters and energize party structures at the local level.
Although Hon. Nekyon contested for the Apac Municipality parliamentary seat, he was defeated by Hon. Patrick Ocan. Analysts cite a combination of factors behind the loss, including local political dynamics and alliances. Despite this setback, Nekyon remained actively involved in campaign efforts, rallying support for other NRM flagbearers. His continued mobilization is widely seen as a key factor behind the party’s improved performance in the district.
Beyond politics, Nekyon is recognized for his ability to bring together diverse communities, fostering unity in a region often marked by political divisions. Leaders describe him as a committed public servant whose influence extends beyond electoral cycles.
In light of these contributions, several local leaders and supporters have appealed to H.E. Yoweri Museveni to consider appointing Hon. Nekyon Isaac Odongo to a ministerial position in the next government. They argue that his loyalty, experience, and leadership capabilities make him well-suited to contribute at the national level.
When contacted for comment, Hon. Nekyon declined to directly address the calls for his appointment but reaffirmed his commitment to supporting President Museveni and the NRM. He emphasized that his priority remains mobilizing support for the party and its leadership.
On whether he would accept a ministerial role if appointed, Nekyon expressed readiness to serve, noting that he is prepared to contribute to government efforts if called upon.
Hon. Nekyon Isaac Odongo is also said to possess both national and international experience in security management, a background that supporters believe could be valuable in public service.

He further called upon the people of the Lango sub-region to continue supporting President Museveni, describing him as a seasoned leader whose influence and leadership extend beyond Uganda’s borders.

As Apac District continues to evolve politically, Nekyon’s role in shaping its trajectory remains a subject of growing interest within both local and national political circles.
