Leading! St Gracious Secondary School, Lira Dominates Gov't Admission in Public Unversites
Kampala, Uganda— A total of 42 students from St. Gracious Secondary School in Lira have secured government sponsorship to pursue higher education in various public universities across Uganda, marking a significant academic milestone for the institution.
Of these, 25 students have been admitted to Makerere University, the country’s premier institution. According to school leadership, the majority of the sponsored students will pursue highly competitive and marketable science-based courses, particularly in medicine and engineering.
The headteacher, Matrine Ojok Anyuru, expressed pride in the students’ achievements during a media address, noting that seven of the candidates admitted to Makerere University will specifically study medicine—one of the most sought-after programs in Uganda.
Other students have been placed in respected institutions across the country, including Soroti University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Lira University, Kyambogo University, and Gulu University.
St. Gracious Secondary School, located in Lira District, has built a strong academic reputation in Northern Uganda. It continues to attract students from regions such as West Nile, Teso, and Acholi, many of whom consider it their first-choice school due to its consistent academic performance and emphasis on science education.
Education stakeholders in Northern Uganda have praised the achievement, describing it as a testament to the growing academic standards in upcountry schools and the expanding access to quality education across Uganda.
