Lira , Uganda : RCC for Lira, Mr. Lawrence Egole, in an exclusive interview with The Luo Native Reporter on Friday, commended media practitioners from the Lango sub-region for their professionalism, describing them as “truthful and objective” in their coverage of the recently concluded February elections that ushered new leaders into office.

Egole noted that, as a result of balanced reporting, Lira City—previously perceived by some politicians as a politically hostile area—experienced a calm and orderly electoral process. He emphasized that voting was conducted peacefully, without major disruptions or incidents, which he attributed in part to responsible journalism and effective coordination among stakeholders.

He urged media practitioners to maintain the same spirit of professionalism and continue using their platforms to promote government programs and foster civic awareness among citizens.

According to the presidential aide Egole, in the past elections, sections of the opposition had allegedly used certain media outlets to spread propaganda against the government in Lango. However, he observed that during this election cycle, security agencies reported very few such cases, indicating a shift toward more accountable communication practices.

Egole also raised concern about a section of social media bloggers whom he accused of accepting payments from politicians to spread misinformation or manipulate public opinion. He warned that authorities are monitoring such activities and that those found culpable could face legal consequences.

He further expressed appreciation to online media platforms in Lango, as well as radio station owners, for providing accessible channels through which the government can engage directly with communities. He noted that these platforms have played a key role in improving public dialogue, transparency, and the dissemination of accurate information.

He concluded by encouraging continued collaboration between the media, government, and citizens to sustain peace, strengthen democratic processes, and support development initiatives in the region.
