Good News for Teachers! Government Announces Confirmations, Promotions, Study Leave and Other Employment Decisions

The Education Service Commission has released a new notice covering hundreds of teaching and non-teaching staff affected by various government employment decisions, including confirmation, redesignation, regularisation, study leave and medical retirement.

The notice, dated October 16, 2026, was signed by Acting Education Service Commission Secretary Mohammed Kaaya on behalf of the commission's secretary. It covers personnel working in schools, technical institutes and other education institutions across Uganda, including a group of 315 graduate teachers who completed their studies in 1990.

According to the commission, the employment decisions were made under the relevant constitutional provisions, including Articles 167, 168 and 172 of the 1995 Constitution. The announcement brings together several categories of personnel whose employment records and administrative matters have been reviewed.

Among the groups highlighted are graduate teachers who completed their studies in 1990. The names provided in the published report include Abar Odong James, Aguma Jalameso, Akulu Viola, Amanyi N. Evelyn, Amumpaire Godfrey, Andrea Seraphine E., Angufibo Alfred, Ariokot Emelda, Anyaija Pollycap, Ashaba John, Asiki Charles, Avuni Serald, Azikuru Rose, Bagamba Beteise Chris, Bagyema Irene M.N. and Bahatt Godfrey.

The confirmation category includes education officers and assistant education officers serving in different institutions. Those named include Ssenku Edirisa Jamilu of Lukalu Secondary School in Butambala, Makula Hakim Kitagenda of Kibibi Secondary School, and several personnel working at Chahi Seed Secondary School in Kisoro. Other employees from secondary schools and technical institutions also appear in the different categories of the notice.

The commission's announcement further covers staff whose positions have been redesignated, employees whose records have been regularised and personnel granted study leave to pursue further education. It also includes former employees of the National College of Business Studies and individuals whose employment details require corrections, listed under the corrigenda category.

Other decisions include the medical retirement of Naluwooza Robinah, an assistant education officer. Staff granted study leave include Nakazibwe Aisha of Bugambi Secondary School in Sironko, Nyakoojo Usufu of Nyakasura School in Fort Portal, Omooja Jonah of Atutur Seed Secondary School in Kumi and Drati Thomas of Olio Community Polytechnic, among others.

The announcement provides an important administrative update for the affected education personnel, although the published report does not reproduce every name from the full list of approximately 500 teachers and non-teaching staff. Those wishing to establish whether their names appear on the complete notice should consult the official Education Service Commission announcement and verify the specific employment decision applicable to them.
