Kampala, Uganda – There is jubilation in Alito sub-county following the nomination of NRM candidate Charles Okello to contest for the position of LC5 District Councilor for Alito Town Council, Kole District.
Charles Okello, a respected community figure and former educator, made a significant career shift by stepping away from the classroom to dedicate himself to community leadership. His decision was driven by a desire to address the leadership gaps and development challenges faced by the residents of Alito Town Council, which has long struggled with effective governance.
The nomination ceremony took place at Kole District headquarters, where the returning officer officially endorsed Okello’s candidacy. In his acceptance speech, Hon. Okello emphasized his main priorities: promoting education and improving healthcare services within the district. As an educator himself, he is committed to advocating for better educational facilities and opportunities for children and youth in his area.
Addressing unemployment among youth, Okello outlined a plan to mobilize young people to embrace agricultural activities, aiming to create sustainable jobs and reduce reliance on external aid. He believes that empowering youth through skills development and agriculture can lead to economic self-sufficiency.
Running under the NRM party ticket, Okello also pledged his support for President Museveni’s government initiatives, including the Parish Development Model (PDM), which aims to uplift rural communities through targeted development programs. He expressed confidence in mobilizing community members to rally behind the NRM-led government and its development agenda.
Okello will face off against UPC candidate Pollycap Okello Omule and several independent candidates, who have also been nominated for the LC5 councilor seat in Alito Town Council.
As the campaign progresses, residents are hopeful that Hon. Charles Okello’s leadership background and commitment to service will bring positive change to Alito Town Council.
