STRONG WARNING! Don’t Divide Your Families Over Politics- Lango Leaders

By Andrew Okao
Dokolo, Uganda| The Luo Natives :As we approach 2026 general election in Uganda, Levison Odongo, the clan head of Okarowok Otiling one of the famous clans in Lango sub-region, has sent a strong warning to his subjects to avoid being divided in their families due to political differences.
He delivered this powerful message during a requiem mass for the late Walter Ewli Okello in Ocamayom village, Adok parish, Adok sub-county, Dokolo district.
He acknowledged that during politics most families engage themselves in division over politics which at the end affects the family.
"It's time for politics; let's play the game well," Odongo stated.
In a related development, Rubby Ogwali, the Chairperson of LCIII Adok sub-county, likened politics to hiring a garden to grow crops, emphasizing that there is no reason to be at odds with the landowner. "If you hire land, you can use it for a specific period, and then it is taken over by the owner or another client with a better offer, " Ogwali explained. He added, "It's the voters who let us in or out, so we have no reason to squabble for power or misunderstand each other over politics. Voters are the best referees in these games." The light-hearted Chairman stressed that there is no need to develop baseless hatred over politics.
Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament, Aguti Sarah Nyangkori, commented on the prevailing violence and ignorance in some areas of Dokolo, attributing it to the increase in mysterious killings in the community. "We can only fight these vices by improving the education of our children," Nyangkori stated.
She reaffirmed her commitment to inclusive education by supplying examinations to all primary schools in the district.
Tom Odur Anang, the Clan Chief of Araki Kwar Nguny, noted that rampant parental negligence had led many students to drop out of school, becoming a menace to society. "Let us look after our children and send them to school to reduce ignorance," Anang urged. He added that educating children would lead to a violence-free society, noting that uneducated individuals in rural communities often become drug addicts and a disservice to society.
Walter Elwi Okello, whose life was being commemorated, was murdered by unknown assailants and hanged up a tree in a neighboring village. Residents discovered his body and notified the police. It is alleged that the killers had been tracking him for the money he earned from selling his maize produce.
