How It Happened! Details Emerge On How Comedian Kapere Collapsed While Watching His Daughter Perform At School

Fresh details have emerged surrounding the sudden death of popular Ugandan comedian Yokana Mbuuse, popularly known as Kapere Lufotose, after he collapsed while attending his daughter's school event in Wakiso District on Sunday. According to a police statement, the 56-year-old comedian complained of a severe headache moments before collapsing in front of his wife and other parents.

Kapere had reportedly arrived at Jolivo Day Care and Junior School in Kyimbejja, Wakiso District, accompanied by his wife, Lydia Nakandi, to attend a visitation and graduation ceremony involving their daughter, Queen. He was said to be in a cheerful mood as he watched his daughter and other pupils perform on stage.

However, the joyful occasion suddenly turned into a frightening scene as pupils in the top class prepared to cut a cake. Kapere reportedly complained of a severe headache before biting his tongue and suddenly dropping to his knees. His condition quickly raised alarm among people attending the function.

His wife, who was reportedly carrying a baby at the time, was left terrified as other parents rushed to help. Those present laid him on a mat in an attempt to assist him, but he barely responded and appeared to be in serious distress.

He was first rushed to the nearby Zam Zam Clinic, where medical personnel reportedly assessed his condition and recommended that he be taken to another health facility for further attention. He was subsequently transferred to Royale Health Services Hospital in Buddo, Wakiso District, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 5:46 pm.

Addressing journalists at Naguru Police Headquarters in Kampala, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Superintendent of Police Racheal Kawala confirmed the incident, saying investigations had commenced to establish what exactly happened. She added that a post-mortem examination would be conducted to determine the actual cause of death.

Kapere rose to prominence through the Amarula Family comedy group, where he worked alongside Allan Mujuni, popularly known as Amooti, and Nicholas Mpiirwe, alias Messe Bontwe. He later became widely recognised through his performances on WBS TV's Side Mirror comedy programme. His distinctive comic style also earned him appearances in music videos, including Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu's Mr. Money. Beyond comedy, he was a known supporter of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and regularly participated in party activities at its Kavule headquarters.

His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from political leaders, fellow entertainers and fans who remember him for his humour and contribution to Uganda's entertainment industry. NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi described him as a loyal friend and comrade whose ability to make people laugh brought happiness to many, even during difficult moments. As investigations continue, many Ugandans are mourning a comedian whose final moments unfolded during what was supposed to be a happy family occasion.
