Lira, Uganda: Wonyaci Attorney, Dickson Ogwang Okul, has expressed his deep sorrow over the death of Colonel (Retired) Abernego Orec, a former member of the British Army Band.

In his condolence message, he described Abernego Orec as a prominet figure whose life was associated with the ideals of patriotism, faith, and cultural preservation.

Ogwang, who has recently been appointed by His Highness Yosam Odur Ebii as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lango Foundation, said the late Abernego contributions into cultural affairs who witnessed where he made a powerful Lango Anthem, signifies the end of an era, leaving a considerable void that will be acutely felt across Uganda, especially within the Lango community.

He underscored that Colonel Orec's contributions to Uganda are deeply embedded in the nation's historical narrative.

The Ambassador further noted that Colonel Orec's presence at the historic 1962 Independence ceremony, where he adeptly conducted the Military Band during the lowering of the British flag and the raising of the Ugandan flag, stands as a powerful symbol of the nation's emergence and his unwavering commitment to his country.

He stated that this act of musical patriotism established a foundation for a lifetime dedicated to shaping Uganda's cultural legacy.

Colonel (Retired) Mzee Abernego passed away on the morning of Friday, December 6, 2024, at Lira University Teaching Hospital, where he had been receiving medical treatment, as reported by Anthony Olobo Odur, the Principal Private Secretary to the Wonyaci of Lango.
