TRENDING: Beyond the Dark History of the LRA War, Abok Seed S.S. Sets Gold Standards for Nationwide Excellence in Secondary Education

Oyam, Uganda: In rural areas where parents often face significant challenges in finding quality secondary schools that deliver excellent UCE and UACE results, Abok Seed Secondary School in Oyam North, Oyam District, is setting new standards to bridge this gap. The school is committed to achieving academic excellence regardless of its geographical location, demonstrating that rural schools can compete with urban institutions and produce top-performing students.

Last week on Thursday, our dedicated team met with the school's Headteacher and some members of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to discuss strategies aimed at elevating Abok Seed Secondary School to join Uganda’s top-performing schools. Notably, in the previous academic year, the school achieved outstanding results, proving that quality education is attainable outside major cities. This success has inspired other rural schools to aspire for similar achievements and fostered hope among local communities.

Patrick Gira, the Headteacher of Abok Seed Secondary School, emphasized that as the second term begins, the school has implemented strategic planning to maintain and improve academic performance. Key initiatives include strengthening teacher capacity through ongoing training, enhancing discipline with active disciplinary committees, and creating a more conducive learning environment to motivate students.

Gira also highlighted that the school is benefiting from government support initiatives. Currently, the Minister of Water and Environment is constructing a new classroom to accommodate the increasing student population. Additionally, the government has a plan to motorize the school’s boreholes, transforming them into pump systems to improve hygiene and sanitation standards—crucial factors for student health and effective learning.

The dedicated staff at Abok Seed Secondary School are working tirelessly to secure a bright future for their students. Gira noted that, in line with the government’s emphasis on science subjects, the school is intensifying efforts to excel in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. The goal is for Abok Seed Secondary School to rank among the top 10 national schools in Uganda.

In his address, Retired Reverend Captain Esau Omara Ejon assured parents of the church’s unwavering commitment to reducing the educational burdens faced by rural families. "We must do everything possible to educate our children," he said. "The church is dedicated to promoting discipline among students and supporting quality education." He commended both teaching and non-teaching staff for their cooperation and teamwork, which have enabled the smooth running of the school.

He also praised the teachers for leading by example and fostering a disciplined, motivated learning environment that inspires students to excel.

Rev. Omara Ejon highly applauded NRM government under the wise leadership of President Museveni for awarding the community community with school in Abok as part of peace recovery program. 

Currently, Abok Seed Secondary School has a few vacancies in Senior One, Two, and Five classes. Prospective students are encouraged to apply promptly to secure their places.
