NRM ELECTIONS: Veteran Media Personality Sabbath Obua Okwir Secures Nominations to Run for Otuke District LC5 Chairperson in 2026
Otuke District — In a significant development ahead of the 2026 general elections, seasoned media personality and politician Sabbath Obua Okwir has officially secured the NRM party nomination to run for the position of Otuke District LC5 Chairperson. The elections are set for February 2026.
Hon. Obua Okwir was officially nominated earlier this week by the NRM Electoral Commission following a thorough verification of his academic credentials and eligibility at the party headquarters in Kampala. The Commission confirmed that he meets all the necessary qualifications to represent NRM as its flag bearer in Otuke District.
In a press briefing in Kampala, Obua expressed his gratitude to the Electoral Commission for entrusting him with the party’s nomination. He outlined his vision to focus on community development, emphasizing improvements in social services such as education and healthcare.
"I am honored to be nominated by the NRM Electoral Commission," Obua stated. "My leadership will prioritize enhancing access to social services, empowering youth through ICT and marketing initiatives, and fostering sustainable development in Otuke."
He highlighted Otuke’s potential for growth, noting that the district has yet to realize its full development potential since its establishment. He pledged to combat poverty through promoting agriculture, supporting community-based initiatives, and improving infrastructure, especially road networks.
As a prominent media personality with extensive community engagement experience, Obua Okwir plans to leverage his influence to promote unity and development. He stressed the importance of collaboration between government and local communities to ensure peace, stability, and progress.
"Peaceful cooperation between civil servants, political leaders, and the community is vital for effective governance," he said. "Disunity hampers progress, and I am committed to fostering harmony in Otuke."
Obua also expressed a strong commitment to preserving Otuke’s rich cultural heritage, particularly its status as the first Lango historical site—believed to be the original settlement of the Lango people. He intends to develop these historical sites to boost tourism and stimulate local economic growth.
On issues of security, the LC5 Chairperson hopeful assured residents of his efforts to maintain peace and protect property through close coordination with security agencies.
Obua Okwir’s nomination is viewed as a step toward progressive leadership focused on social development, cultural preservation, and peacebuilding in Otuke District. His campaign is expected to rally support from various community stakeholders eager for positive change in the district.
