Sad News! Another Accident On Soroti-Mbale Highway Leads To Deaths & Injuries

Two people have died in a serious road accident involving a South Sudanese-registered vehicle and a Kenyan fuel tanker along the Soroti-Mbale Highway in Ngora District. The head-on collision occurred on Thursday morning, October 29, 2026, leaving both motorists and residents at the scene in shock.

The deceased were identified as Hakim Abraham Remo, a South Sudanese national who was driving a Toyota Noah registration number SSD 135DB, and George Okiror, a Ugandan pedestrian. Remo was reportedly a resident of Juba, South Sudan.

The accident happened at around 10 a.m. in Mukura Sub-county when the Noah collided with a fuel tanker bearing registration number KBR 784R/ZD 3157. The tanker was travelling in the opposite direction at the time of the crash.

According to eyewitnesses, the Noah was heading towards Mbale at high speed when its driver attempted to overtake a bus. During the manoeuvre, the vehicle reportedly collided with the oncoming tanker, resulting in a devastating crash.

An eyewitness said the driver tried to return to his lane but lost control and struck Okiror, who was walking along the roadside. The impact left both Remo and the pedestrian dead, although police are still investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.

Ngora District Traffic Officer Muhammad Wamuyale confirmed the incident and said police officers had secured the scene. He explained that the tanker was still carrying fuel, prompting authorities to restrict access because of fears that any spark or disturbance could cause an explosion.

Police warned residents and other road users against approaching the wreckage as officers continued managing the scene. The presence of the loaded fuel tanker raised additional safety concerns for people who had gathered after the collision.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Freda Carr Hospital mortuary as police launched investigations to establish the full cause of the crash. The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of risky overtaking and speeding, particularly on busy highways where vehicles travel in opposite directions.
