UCI School of Nursing and Midwifery Extends July Intake, Reduces Tuition to Boost Access to Medical Education

LIRA CITY, UGANDA; Students who have not yet secured admission to medical training institutions have been given another opportunity after UCI School of Nursing and Midwifery in Lira City extended its July 2026 intake and announced a reduction in tuition fees for certificate and diploma programmes.

The extension comes as the institution seeks to accommodate more qualified applicants before admissions officially close, a move the management says is intended to expand access to healthcare education, particularly for students from low-income families.

Speaking to journalists in Lira City, the Chief Executive Director of UCI School of Nursing and Midwifery, Mr. Sam Omara, confirmed that the institution has reopened admissions and is targeting at least 200 additional students before the July intake closes.

"Our doors remain open for prospective students who wish to pursue careers in nursing and midwifery. We have extended the admission period to allow more Ugandans, especially those who were delayed by financial challenges, to enroll," Mr. Omara said.

He explained that the school's Board of Directors resolved to reduce tuition fees after recognizing that many capable students across Uganda continue to miss opportunities for medical education because of financial constraints.

"For many years, parents have struggled to raise tuition for medical courses, forcing many young people to abandon their dreams of becoming health professionals. We have responded by lowering tuition fees so that more families can afford quality healthcare education," he added.

According to the management, the revised tuition package is available to eligible students from all regions of Uganda without discrimination, reflecting the institution's commitment to producing competent health workers to support the country's growing healthcare needs.

Mr. Omara encouraged Senior Four and Senior Six leavers, as well as those seeking to upgrade their qualifications, to take advantage of the extended admission window before the intake closes.

He noted that UCI School of Nursing and Midwifery continues to invest in practical skills training through well-equipped demonstration laboratories, experienced tutors, clinical placements in accredited health facilities, and a learning environment designed to prepare graduates for the labour market.

The institution offers accredited programmes leading to Certificate and Diploma qualifications in Nursing and Midwifery, aimed at equipping students with the knowledge and practical competencies required in Uganda's health sector.

Education experts have consistently observed that increasing access to affordable medical education is critical in addressing the country's shortage of qualified health professionals, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

Parents and prospective students have been urged to visit the school's admissions office in Lira City or contact the institution for guidance on application requirements before the July 2026 intake officially closes.
