TOP Story! Erute North Veteran Endorses Museveni as sole Candidate As They Rally Support To MP Hopeful Major(Rtd) Emmanuel Opio

Lira District, Uganda; As we approach the 2026 general election in Uganda, the veteran community in Erute North, Lira District, has joined others in backing Ugandan President YK Museveni, who is also the chairman of the ruling NRM party, as the sole candidate for the upcoming election.
This endorsement took place during the annual general meeting at Agweng Parents School, organized by the Erute North Veteran Association, which unites former soldiers in the area. Notable military figures like Colonel (Rtd) Smith Ayo and Major (Rtd) Emmy Opio were present at the meeting. They expressed their appreciation to President Museveni for the peace and security that allows them to enjoy improved services, highlighting developments such as rural electrification in every village and the new construction of the Masindi port and the Apac-Lira-Kitgum road, which will enhance the economy.
Corporal Sony Oder, The Association Chair praised the president for his leadership and professionalism in the army but urged the government and President Museveni, their commander of the reserve force, to assist in boosting their income generation. The veteran community, which is also backing Major (Rtd) Emmanuel Opio for the Erute North Parliamentary seat, pledged to mobilize support for both him and President Museveni.
The chairman of their association expressed gratitude to the government for consistently bringing development to their community. Major (Rtd) Emmy Opio, a candidate for the Erute North Parliamentary seat in 2026, conveyed his appreciation to the veterans for their support of Museveni and the NRM party.
He promised to uphold their commitments and continue providing support. Opio, a former dedicated UPDF officer known for his loyalty in various roles, stated that the NRM party is here to stay. He noted that while the Bible speaks of the resurrection of humans, it doesn’t mention the resurrection of political parties, claiming that UPC, DP, and UPM have long since faded after 1980, and that FDC and NUP have also failed, urging people to remain loyal to the NRM.
