Security Officials Urged Lango Media Houses to Promote Peace Amid Passing of Lango Chief Yosam Odur

Lango Centre, Uganda: In the wake of the passing of Wonyaci Emeritus Yosam Odur Ebii, security officials and community leaders have called on media houses in the region to play a vital role in promoting peace and unity. Brigadier General Chris Ogwal, an instructor at the UPDF training school, emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony during this sensitive period. 

“This is not the time for division,” Brigadier General Ogwal stated. He appealed to clan leaders and community members to set aside differences and work together to honor the legacy of the late chief. Speaking on behalf of Brigadier Katunyi, the 5th Division Commander, Ogwal stressed that unity is crucial for the stability and progress of the Lango region.

Currently Lango elders are gathering at Lango Cultural center to ensure that the late chief’s contributions to the community are duly recognized and celebrated.

He also thanked the clan leaders for being during this difficult moments. 

Security officials have also urged media outlets to uphold responsible reporting, avoid inflammatory language, and focus on promoting peace and reconciliation in their coverage of the funeral proceedings and related activities. This call underscores the collective effort needed from all sectors to ensure a peaceful and respectful farewell for the revered leader.

Meanwhile, amid differences, the family of the departed Lango Paramount Chief have aggreed to work together in organising the burial of mzee together.

Office of the President has granted a official burial to Yosam Odur.
