In a significant political move ahead of the 2026-2031 general elections, Walter Alungu, a long-time member of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), has officially crossed over to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to fully back Jane Frances Acilo’s bid for Woman Member of Parliament for Oyam District.
The announcement was made on Thursday, 13th November 2025, at Kulakula Trading Center, where Alungu declared his change of allegiance. “There is no future in UPC,” Alungu stated, explaining that after careful reflection, he found the UPC lacked tangible progress and opportunities for the people.
Alungu praised Jane Frances Acilo as a visionary leader committed to the welfare of Oyam District. “Jane Frances Acilo is a leader who has come to rescue the people of Oyam with a clear and people-centered manifesto. She is kind, approachable, and has demonstrated her dedication through concrete actions even before being elected to Parliament,” he said.
He expressed confidence that Acilo’s leadership would propel Oyam District to new heights. “Based on what she has accomplished so far, I believe she is the right person to transform our district’s future,” Alungu added.
This defection is expected to strengthen Acilo’s campaign as she seeks to unite diverse political supporters under the NRM banner to drive development in Oyam District.
