Lira City– Residents of Adekokwok and Angwet Agwet have expressed strong support for Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero's bid for re-election to Parliament.
During a rally in Ireda East, Lira City East Division, voters expressed their full backing and urged Dr. Aceng to continue her development work in Lira City.
Dr. Aceng arrived at the venue to a vibrant welcome, with locals singing her campaign songs " Aceng Ocero Yin pwod Idok adoka i parliament" meaning the Path is very clear, she will win the elections and return to parliament.
They also pledged not only to vote for her but also to protect their votes to ensure her victory.
"We are ready as women of Ireda East to cast our votes for Dr. Jane for Lira City Woman MP and to guard our votes," they said.
Several speakers highlighted Dr. Aceng's remarkable contributions to Lira City and the wider Lango sub-region. Jimmy Awany, a strong UPC supporter who is now actively campaigning for Dr. Aceng, stated that her performance in just one term makes her irreplaceable.
"Even though we in UPC have our own candidate, what Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero has done speaks loudly. We cannot accept to lose her," Awany said. "I am now mobilizing for President Museveni and Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero; those are my candidates in the NRM."
He listed her key achievements in healthcare, education, agriculture, and women's empowerment.
In health, he talked of equiping Lira Referral Hospital to the standards that can handle complicated health related issues which was being handled from far like in Kampala and other places.
Welcoming her on behalf of the local council, Wacha Fredrick thanked Dr. Aceng for her leadership and for delivering development to the city.
In her address, Dr. Aceng urged the community not to be swayed by what she called "cheap propaganda" from her rivals. She outlined her mission to empower the community by promoting modern agriculture and lobbying for government projects.
While acknowledging improvements in the health sector, Dr. Aceng stated she is now focusing on economic empowerment. She also challenged her main rival to account for her own long time in Parliament before asking for votes.
Dr. Aceng reminded the community of her support for agriculture, such as providing walking tractors, and promised to extend these initiatives to more communities in the future.
Ending the rally on a peaceful note, Dr. Aceng urged her supporters to practice politics of love, unity, and peace.
