Over 300 UPC Supporters Disown MP Amongi As They Endorse Dr. Aceng Sole Candidate for Lira City Woman MP A head 2026

Lira, Uganda: The Luo Natives | In Lira City, over 300 supporters of the Uganda People's Congress (UPC) have united to endorse President Museveni and Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng as the sole candidates for the upcoming 2026 general election.
These UPC members argued that UPC Akena and Minister Amongi should not contest, citing their lack of significant contributions to the Lango sub-region. During a press conference in Lira City, Dorcus Apili, who is spearheading this initiative, emphasized that despite being UPC members, they cannot support Betty Amongi Akena due to her ineffective leadership in Oyam South.
Apili voiced her disappointment, stating that Amongi has not done anything beneficial for the community and that they will not allow her to take the place of their dedicated leader, Dr. Aceng, in Parliament. She also criticized Akena's presidential bid, arguing that as UPC supporters, they cannot back him since both have gained from Museveni's leadership. She questioned how anyone could oppose a leader who has contributed so much to their welfare.

Currently, Minister Amongi is facing rejection from her section of members of UPC supporters as she pursues her political goals. Apili urged her fellow UPC members to stay focused and continue supporting Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, who truly cares for the people and has made significant contributions to development.
Regarding a recent rally, Apili pointed out that many attendees were not genuine voters from Lira City. Another strong UPC supporter, Rita Akoli, mentioned that even though they have faced intimidation from some of Amongi’s supporters, their commitment to Dr. Aceng Ocero remains strong.
As UPC members in the city, we are backing DR. JANE RUTH ACHENG because we believe in her ability to lead and advocate for development. The team also cautioned against mixing church and politics, noting that some individuals are misusing it, particularly against the Catholic Church, which has its own candidate.
Recently, Minister Otafire warned the people of Lango to avoid electing weak and greedy leaders, publicly supporting Dr. Aceng.
