My preferred burial ground Is Mulanda-Ayago! Ofwono Opondo Chooses Death Over Apologising To Museveni's Son As Muhoozi's Seven-Day Ultimatum Nears
Government spokesperson and MP Ofwono Opondo has responded to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba's seven-day ultimatum with a statement in which he revealed his preferred burial place, saying he had not made a death wish but would be found at his chosen burial ground if the warning turned out to be serious.
Opondo's response follows Muhoozi's demand that he apologise publicly and on his knees within seven days. The Chief of Defence Forces had accused the legislator of repeatedly insulting him and warned that he would show him who he was.
In a message addressed to President Yoweri Museveni, Opondo wrote: “I have not made my death wish, but if this is accurate, the 7th day will find me in Mulanda-Ayago, my preferred burial ground.”
By mentioning Mulanda-Ayago, Opondo appeared to suggest that he was prepared to stand by his position despite the warning. He also brought the President into the matter by directly addressing him in his message.
Opondo's statement attracted further attention after Muhoozi responded with another message, writing: “I will happily oblige. Let's meet there.” The exchange has intensified public interest in the disagreement between the two prominent figures.
The confrontation follows disagreements over retired Gen Peter Elwelu, particularly questions surrounding the circumstances of his surrender. Opondo had questioned aspects of the matter, while Muhoozi defended the military's handling of the former deputy army chief.
The public exchange has since moved beyond the original disagreement, with both men making statements that have attracted widespread reactions. Their positions have also raised questions about the relationship between military leadership and civilian political figures.
With Muhoozi's seven-day deadline hanging over the dispute, attention is now focused on whether Opondo will apologise or maintain his position. Neither man's latest statement has provided a clear indication of how the confrontation will end.
