Disbelief! Photographer Arrested For Failing To Take Pictures Of MP During An Event

A 27-year-old Kampala-based photographer, Perez Maduma, has been remanded to Luzira Prison over allegations that he received Shs250,000 from National Youth MP Mercy Kanyesigye after promising to photograph her at an event but allegedly failed to deliver the service.

Maduma appeared before City Hall Court, where he was charged with obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 285 of the Penal Code Act. He denied the charge before Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Nicholas Aisu.

According to the prosecution, the incident happened in October 2026 at Parliament, where Maduma allegedly received the money from Kanyesigye after promising to take her photographs during a youth conference scheduled to take place in Kamuli District.

The prosecution alleges that Maduma obtained the Shs250,000 with the intention of defrauding the legislator because he had no intention of providing the photography services he had promised.

The case has attracted public attention because it involves a National Youth MP and a photographer who was reportedly hired to cover her appearance at an event. However, the court is yet to hear the evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding the payment and the alleged failure to provide the service.

During the proceedings, State Attorney Benjamin Amanya informed the magistrate that police investigations had been completed. He consequently asked the court to schedule the matter for hearing.

After Maduma denied the allegations, the magistrate ordered that he be remanded to Luzira Prison until November 19, 2026, when the case is expected to return to court for further proceedings.

Maduma has not been convicted of any offence. He remains innocent unless the prosecution proves the allegations against him in court.
