Karamoja, Uganda: The Luo Native – The President's recent tour across the country has made a significant impact on the Karamoja sub-region, encouraging locals to focus on wealth generation and economic independence, as stated by Kedi Ronald Ongodia, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Karenga.

During his visit, which aimed at fostering socio-economic development and reducing poverty, residents of Karamoja were encouraged to move away from subsistence farming and traditional methods towards more innovative and lucrative opportunities.

Speaking to the press, Deputy RDC Ongodia highlight8ed that the President's message struck a chord with the community, inspiring many to delve into agribusiness, livestock farming, and other income-generating pursuits.

“The President’s visit served as a wake-up call for the people of Karamoja, especially in Karenga. His focus on wealth creation and self-sufficiency has sparked a renewed sense of purpose within our communities,” remarked the Deputy RDC. “We’re already witnessing a shift in mindset, with more individuals eager to embrace modern farming practices to enhance their earnings.”

Historically, the Karamoja sub-region has been known for its pastoral lifestyle and susceptibility to drought, facing numerous economic hurdles. However, the government's renewed commitment to wealth creation and infrastructure development has instilled hope for a better future.

During the tour, the President introduced several initiatives designed to empower the local population, met with successful beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model, and engaged with exemplary farmers. He also shared an inspiring message with the people of Karamoja, visiting areas like Moroto to assess the implementation of the Parish Development Model in Uganda.

The Deputy RDC further stressed the need for ongoing government support and community involvement to ensure the success of these initiatives. “We can’t expect to achieve wealth creation overnight, but with continued teamwork between the government and the community, we can make significant progress.”

The Commissioner stated that efforts are being made to encourage children in Karenga to value education, particularly with the government's initiative to establish a seed secondary school in the district. He emphasized that as the community focuses on wealth creation, it is equally important for them to engage in the education of their children.

As the Karamoja sub-region begins its path toward economic empowerment, the President's nationwide tour acts as a driving force for transformation, instilling hope and motivating action among the local population.
