He Should Be Investigated! Frank Gashumba Takes Pastor Robert Kayanja To Police Over Alleged Death Threats, Demands Serious Investigations
Businessman and political analyst Frank Gashumba has formally reported Pastor Robert Kayanja to police, asking security authorities to investigate what he describes as threats of violence against his life and family. The move marks a major escalation in the public disagreement between the two prominent Ugandans, which started following Gashumba's criticism of some religious leaders.
Gashumba revealed that he had submitted a formal complaint to the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), seeking investigations into statements allegedly made by Kayanja. He reportedly attached video recordings of the disputed remarks as evidence and asked police to take the matter seriously.
In his complaint, Gashumba alleges that Kayanja made threatening statements against him and his family following their disagreement over claims of miraculous healing and the conduct of some religious leaders. He argues that threats should not be dismissed simply because they are delivered through religious language or presented as prophecies.
Gashumba stated: “I hope police will accord this complaint the attention and seriousness it demands. A threat is a threat, whether it is dressed as a prayer.” He says he wants investigators to establish the circumstances surrounding the remarks and take appropriate action if wrongdoing is established.
The political analyst also claimed that Kayanja held a meeting at Serena Kigo earlier in the week where he was allegedly discussed. Questioning why the pastor was so concerned about his criticism, Gashumba challenged him to demonstrate his claimed healing powers through a verifiable miracle at an intensive care unit.
Gashumba further questioned whether Kayanja's reaction was connected to his criticism of religious leaders whom he describes as false prophets. He referred to Matthew 7:14 in making his argument about how religious leaders should be judged by their actions.
The disagreement reportedly began after Gashumba appeared on a radio programme in October and criticised religious figures he accused of exploiting vulnerable believers through miracle claims and financial demands. He maintains that he was speaking generally about religious practices and had not initially singled out Kayanja by name. The dispute later escalated after Kayanja publicly responded to his comments.
The complaint now places the disagreement before police, with Gashumba seeking formal investigations into the alleged threats. As of the latest reports, there was no official police statement confirming the outcome of the complaint, and Kayanja's response to the latest allegations had not been provided. The matter is therefore awaiting clarification from the relevant authorities.
