MESSAGE OF PEACE! Wonyaci Odur Calls For Reconciliation among divided Lango Clan Heads

Lira City, Uganda ! After the court's decision, His Highness Yosam Odur reached out to Dr. Okune’s followers, urging them to embrace reconciliation.

 Despite the court ruling in his favor, the respected cultural leader Odur expressed his dissatisfaction with leading a divided council of Owitonge, encouraging them to unite and work towards a common goal for Lango. 

Yosam mentioned he is open to forgiving Okune’s supporters and collaborating, provided they accept the reconciliation initiative.

 Currently H.H. Odur is spreading a message of love, peace, and unity throughout Lango. 

He emphasized that as they age, they don’t want to leave behind a legacy of disunity, which could hinder the region's development.

 It’s unfortunate that he, who should be guiding them, is still in a leadership position because they haven’t come together and listened, listen to them and get a true leader.

He urged all members of Owitonge to set aside their differences and collaborate. 

Odur also sent a personal note to Dr. Odongo Okune and his team about the importance of reconciliation, expressing confusion over their ongoing conflict. He mentioned that they have been inviting them to join forces, but they continue to ignore the calls. 

He reassured the people of Lango that no one will swoop in from above to solve their problems unless they all agree that peace talks and unity are the only paths forward. On Friday, November 29, 2024, the High Court in Lira ruled against Okune, rejecting his request to overturn a previous decision. Earlier, the court had nullified his election as Wonyaci and ordered the removal of Dr. Okune name as Wonyaci from the official gazette. 

While comments from Okune’s camp were not got, a source close to them hinted that they are contemplating reconciliation but are wary of the terms and conditions in the process. 

In his remarks after swearing in as Prime Minister Of Lango Cultural foundation,  Fredick Ogwal Oyee, also himself a clan leader pledged to ensure bring peace among the   divided  clan chiefs. He said he reach out to Dr. OKUNE’S Faction and preach the message of peace and Unity. 

He also urged people of Lango to remain supportive to their legitimate Cultural leader, H H Yosam Odur as they unite to overcome poverty. 

At the statehouse, President of Uganda H.E Y.K Museveni advised the two to go through reconciliation with the guidance of lango religious leaders, He also said if reconciliation fails, the team can take a legal means.

In different poplar social media platforms in Lango like Lango Political affairs, Lira City Decides among others, natives have been calling the two factions to put a side their differences and settle the issue in peaceful manner rather than court.

They also further urged Dr. OKUNE’S CAMP to meet H.H Odur and reconcile for the seek of peace and unity in the region, while others this publication has told to are pushing an independent fresh election of Wonyaci before the retirement 0f H.H Yosam Odur using the 2017 Lango cultural foundation established constitution.
