Kyoga County Incumbent MP Okot Betek Political Misfortune Increases As Opinion Poll Puts His rival Col(Rtd) Dr. ONGIA On Top

Amolatar, Uganda, Junior Moses Okot Betek, the current MP for Kyoga County, is facing increasing challenges as his rival, Col(Rtd) Dr. Francise Ongia, gains momentum in the race for the 12th parliament. Recent opinion polls suggest that Ongina has a 90% chance of winning the seat in the upcoming 2026-2031 elections.
Ongia, who contested under NRM primaries 2021 and lost, has garnered support due to his active role in community development, especially in helping those at landing sites seek justice and supporting youth initiatives. Last year, he contributed to various youth groups by providing sports equipment and repairing boreholes to ensure the community has access to clean and affordable water.
Many voters have shown strong support for Ongia
Jasper Oculi, a voter from Acii sub-county, expressed optimism about Ongia's chances, stating they want a leader who prioritizes development and collaborates with the government.
In the latest opinion poll, Betek was placed second. During a recent gathering with voters, Ongia pointed out that the constituency has been held back by ineffective leadership that doesn't prioritize community needs.
He pledged to combat poverty and improve local schools and healthcare facilities.
As a committed man of faith, Ongia also enjoys backing from local churches, making him relatable and approachable to voters.
