Nameere Thanks Museveni and Muhoozi After Court Victory Over NUP's Nalubowa, Declares “God Has Done It!”
Minister of State for Local Government Justine Nameere has expressed gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba after the High Court dismissed an election petition challenging her victory as the Woman Member of Parliament for Masaka City. Celebrating the ruling, Nameere thanked the two leaders for what she described as their kind consideration during her political struggles. She also credited God for helping her overcome the legal battle, declaring that her victory was a testimony of faith and perseverance.
The court ruling was delivered electronically on October 21, 2026, by High Court Judge Bernard Namanya. The petition had been filed by National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Rose Nalubowa, who wanted the court to overturn Nameere's election and declare her the rightful winner. However, the judge found that Nalubowa had failed to present sufficient evidence to justify nullifying the election results. The court dismissed the petition and ordered Nalubowa to pay the costs of the case.
In its decision, the court examined concerns surrounding the electoral recount and votes that had been excluded during the process. Although the judge noted that the recount had violated electoral law following the compromising of electoral materials, Nalubowa failed to establish that the certified recount figures were incorrect. The court also considered whether the excluded votes could have changed the outcome of the election.
According to the figures presented in the judgment, Nalubowa had received 23,176 votes, while Nameere secured 25,502 votes. The 1,353 excluded votes would not have been enough to overturn the result even if all of them had been added to Nalubowa's tally. Her total would have risen to 24,529 votes, leaving Nameere ahead by 973 votes. Based on this calculation, the court rejected the request to overturn the election results.
Reacting to the judgment, Nameere celebrated what she described as a victory over political forces that had attempted to frustrate her ambitions. In her message, she declared, “MY TESTIMONY: GOD HAS DONE IT!” She maintained that she had remained hopeful throughout the legal proceedings despite the challenges she claimed to have faced. The minister portrayed the court's decision as a major breakthrough after a difficult political journey.
Nameere also revisited the challenges she said she encountered during the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries and the subsequent parliamentary election. She alleged that some individuals within her own political party had worked with opposition figures to undermine her chances. According to her account, certain people had allegedly concealed their intentions within the NRM while cooperating with members of NUP. These accusations were part of Nameere's reaction to the ruling and were not independently verified.
The minister specifically thanked President Museveni for extending what she described as “kind consideration” after learning about her political struggles in Masaka. She also praised General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and leader of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), for reportedly ordering an investigation into alleged cooperation between some NRM members and opposition figures. However, the claims of political collusion and the status of the reported investigation remain separate from the court's decision on the election petition.
Concluding her message, Nameere encouraged young people aspiring to join politics to remain strong in their faith and never give up when faced with challenges. She cited Isaiah 54:17, declaring that no weapon formed against her would prosper. With the High Court dismissing Nalubowa's petition and ordering her to pay the legal costs, Nameere has secured a favourable outcome in the legal challenge to her election. The ruling settles the petition before the court, while the minister's allegations about political interference remain unverified.
