LIRA CITY, UGANDA — David Kabanda, one of the founding pillars of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), has urged the people of Lango to rally behind General Muhoozi Kainerugaba as a potential successor to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, saying Uganda needs leadership with a strong national outlook.

Speaking at the PLU launch in the Lango sub-region, Kabanda described the movement as an ideological pressure group, rather than a political party, committed to fighting corruption, promoting transparency and strengthening accountability.

He commended Lango for its support for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and called on residents to prioritise national unity and development over regional political interests.

Kabanda further challenged Ugandans to support leaders with national appeal rather than those whose political influence is limited to particular regions.

In a major grassroots mobilisation move, he distributed PLU membership registration books to district and sub-county representatives to facilitate the recruitment of new members across Lango.

Welcoming Kabanda, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, a PLU promoter, said support for Gen Muhoozi forms part of preparations to position him for future national leadership.

The launch attracted prominent political figures, including Regional Vice Chair of NRM  Denis Hamson Obua, Erute South MP Sam Engola and former Kole District Woman MP Judith Alyek, alongside NRM leaders and opposition members who reportedly endorsed the movement.

The gathering underscored growing political mobilisation in Lango around PLU and the emerging debate on Uganda's 2031 leadership.
