NEBBI: The Greater Nebbi Elders’ Council, under the newly registered GN Vurra pa Judongo Foundation Ltd, will convene an interfaith peace building prayer gathering on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Nebbi Town SS Grounds, Nebbi Municipality.
Rooted in the divine call for reconciliation and renewal, this sacred event seeks to foster unity, heal divisions, and invoke blessings for sustainable development in the Greater Nebbi subregion.
The foundation, divinely inspired to steward holistic development, promote peace, nurture emerging leaders, and champion the rights of the elderly, has extended an invitation to the Commissioner for Disability & Elderly from the Ministry of Gender, Labour & Social Development as the chief guest.
Esteemed faith leaders from Catholic, Anglican, Islamic, and Pentecostal communities will unite in leading prayers, embodying the spirit of interfaith harmony.
Anchored in the biblical promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14—“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” the event calls for humility, repentance, and divine intervention to restore the region.
This sacred gathering comes at a critical juncture, as the political landscape grows tense with leaders mobilizing for the 2026 general elections.
Deep-seated divisions among Greater Nebbi’s leaders, particularly politicians, have fueled polarization, threatening the region’s unity and progress.
The peacebuilding prayers aim to mend these rifts, fostering reconciliation and collective purpose.
“This prayer marks a divinely ordained beginning to our mission of fostering peace, unity, and transformative development in Greater Nebbi,” said Canon Kura Vasco, Chairperson of the foundation.
Key stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and faith-based organizations, are expected to join in this spiritual endeavor.
The event will also serve as a platform to unveil the foundation’s executive team and seek divine blessings for the Greater Nebbi subregion.
The peacebuilding prayers offer profound benefits, including Invoking divine grace to heal societal wounds and restore communal harmony, Unity and Reconciliation, Strengthening ethical leadership and collective responsibility through faith-inspired reflection.
This event will also act as a Blessing for Development Seeking divine favor for the success of initiatives like the Greater Nebbi Sustainable Development Framework.
This framework, a strategic policy crafted by stakeholders, aims to drive inclusive growth and socio-economic transformation.
The subregion faces numerous challenges, including low education levels marked by high school dropout rates, early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and the deplorable state of infrastructure, notably the 119-kilometer Nebbi-Goli-Paidha-Zombo-Warr-Vurra road, which remains muddy in the rainy season and dusty in the dry season.
Despite decades of advocacy for its tarmacking, government promises remain unfulfilled.
Through these prayers, Greater Nebbi seeks divine guidance to overcome these challenges, bless its leaders, and pave the way for a future of peace, unity, and sustainable development.
