Thousands Celebrate Sam Engola's Cabinet Appointment, Leaders Call for Unity in Lango

LIRA DISTRICT, Uganda— Thousands of residents gathered at Olilo Primary School in Erute South Constituency on Saturday to celebrate the appointment of their Member of Parliament, Hon. Sam Engola, to Uganda's Cabinet by President Yoweri Museveni.

The event attracted political leaders, cultural figures, religious leaders, and supporters from across the Lango Sub-region and beyond. Speakers congratulated Engola on his appointment and expressed optimism that his new role would help advance development priorities in the region.

Several leaders who addressed the gathering described Engola as an experienced public servant whose leadership has positively influenced many people throughout his political career. They encouraged him to use his Cabinet position to advocate for improved service delivery, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for the people of Lango.

Speaking to journalists after the celebrations, former Kole District Woman Member of Parliament and former Chairperson of the Lango Parliamentary Group, Hon. Judith Alyek, congratulated Engola on both his electoral victory in Erute South and his appointment to Cabinet.

Alyek said Engola had played a significant role in national leadership and in mentoring many young leaders in the Lango Sub-region.

"Hon. Sam Engola has served this country and the people of Lango for many years. He inspired many of us to join public service and leadership, and we believe he will continue championing the development agenda of our region in his new position," Alyek said.

She also thanked President Museveni for appointing Engola to the Cabinet, saying the decision demonstrated confidence in leaders from Lango Sub-region.

Alyek urged residents and political leaders across Lango to work together and support leaders appointed to national offices, regardless of political differences, to ensure the region benefits from government programmes and investments.

"When our sons and daughters are entrusted with national responsibilities, we should unite behind them and work together for the good of Lango," she added.

The celebration followed President Museveni's recent Cabinet reshuffle, in which four leaders from the Lango Sub-region were appointed to ministerial positions, a development that many local leaders described as an opportunity to strengthen the region's representation in the national government.

Supporters at the event expressed hope that the appointments would accelerate implementation of government programmes and contribute to improved socio-economic development across Northern Uganda.

Hon. Engola, a veteran politician and long-serving public servant, pledged to continue serving the people of Erute South and Uganda with commitment while promoting government policies aimed at improving livelihoods.
