ROAD TO 2026: Celebrations In Lira As Kampala Clerk Alyela Denis Omodi Picks NRM Form For Lira-City East MP Race
Lira, Uganda: The political atmosphere in Lira City is beginning to heat up as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party opens the gates for the 2026 general elections.
Among the first aspirants to publicly declare his intention is Denis Omodi Alyela, a prominent Ugandan public administrator, entrepreneur, and humanitarian with a strong commitment to community development and transformative leadership.
Addressing the media in Kampala after picking his expression of nomination form, the vibrant NRM politician stated, "This decision is a response to the cry of the community. I want to bring change and effective leadership down to our people."
Omodi, a resident of Ngetta, further added that he is already experiencing a warm welcome from the community.
Since MP Akena declared his bid for the presidency, many individuals have expressed interest in contesting for the MP seat. However, Omodi emerges as a strong contender both within the NRM party and among opposition supporters. Recent surveys show that he is highly favored to win, thanks to his impressive track record and extensive leadership experience.
His decision to join active electoral politics is seen by many as a boost for the NRM in Lira City East, where he remains a respected figure with strong connections among community leaders and youth groups and government.
Omodi's entry into the race sets the stage for what could become a high-stakes contest in the area.
A youthful and dynamic leader, Omodi previously served as Town Clerk for Kampala Central Division under the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). In this role, he spearheaded vital reforms in urban management, sanitation, maternal health, and public health planning, demonstrating his capacity for impactful governance.
Educationally, Denis holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from the Paris School of Business, combining academic rigor with practical solutions. His professional journey spans both the private and public sectors; he currently serves as Executive Director of Teko Grains Limited, focusing on enhancing food security through agribusiness initiatives.
As the founder of Human Africa Mission (HAM), Denis pioneered mobile hospital services in the Lango sub-region, bringing essential healthcare—including surgical services and cancer screenings—closer to rural communities. His collaborations with UN agencies and international NGOs have improved WASH services, healthcare, and livelihoods for refugees and host communities across Northern Uganda.
Coming from a reputable family background, Omodi enjoys broad support from both NRM members and opposition leaders, who see him as a catalyst for positive change in a constituency traditionally dominated by opposition politics. His vision is to address community needs through impactful, people-centered leadership, advocating for sustainable development and improved public services.
With his proven dedication to service, governance, and community empowerment, Denis Omodi Alyela is well-positioned to bring a results-driven, inclusive approach to Parliament as the representative for Lira City East, championing policies that foster growth, health, and social equity.
