Lira, Uganda – The Uganda Christian Institute (UCI) School of Nursing and Midwifery in Lira City has officially opened admissions for its upcoming academic intake, reaffirming its commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of Uganda through quality education and professional training.

With a strong emphasis on promoting healthcare services and specialized nursing, the institution is steadily gaining recognition as a regional hub for nurturing competent and compassionate healthcare professionals. Rooted in Christian values, UCI combines faith-based learning with modern medical education to produce graduates who are both skilled and ethically grounded.

The school offers hands-on, practical training in critical areas of nursing and midwifery, enabling students to engage with real-life healthcare challenges from an early stage in their education. Its programs are designed to respond to the increasing demand for skilled professionals in Uganda’s healthcare sector, especially in underserved rural communities.

According to the UCI administrator, Mr. Sam Omara, the School of Nursing and Midwifery is playing a crucial role in narrowing the gap in specialized healthcare services, including oncology nursing.

“We are committed to bridging the critical skills gap by equipping our students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on clinical experience,” said Mr. Omara. “With the shortage of healthcare professionals in Uganda, our graduates are not just filling positions—they’re transforming lives.”

The school is now accepting applications for Diploma and Certificate programs in Nursing and Midwifery. These programs include coursework in general nursing, maternal health, community health.

New facilities and partnerships have also strengthened UCI’s training capacity. Recent investments in simulation labs, digital learning resources, and collaborations with local hospitals have enhanced the quality of training and student preparedness.

Prospective students are encouraged to apply early due to a limited number of intake slots. The application period runs through April to May for July Intake and admission forms can be obtained directly from the institute’s admissions office or downloaded from the UCI website.

This initiative aligns closely with the Ministry of Health’s strategy to build a resilient health system through investment in human resources, especially at the grassroots level.

As Uganda continues to grapple with the challenges of limited healthcare access and rising disease burden, institutions like UCI School of Nursing and Midwifery are stepping up to play a vital role in the nation’s health and development agenda.
