Stop Voting Out Competent Leaders for Missing Burial Functions In The Community, Says Alebtong Chair D.K Odongo
Alebtong, Uganda: The outgoing chairperson of Alebtong District, Dk. Odongo, has issued an emotional call to voters to reconsider their expectations of local leaders, particularly regarding funeral attendance. During an appearance on Oroma TV, Odongo expressed surprise that the careers of some politicians are negatively impacted by the pressure to attend every burial.
"I urge you, please, do not vote someone out because of not attending a burial, as their work is broad," Odongo stated. He also noted that voters' high expectations can impede leaders' performance.
He said some of the Competent polticians at the local government like chairperson LC5 of District failed because voters expect them to also as well support as a member 0f Parliament who received heavy salary and allowances.
Some time of us when we attend the burial and give our condolences, mourners, community also need us to contribute the same amout with MPs yet their salary and allowances are to much.. he emotionally stated.
Odongo, who lost his re-election bid to NRM candidate Ambrose Ongom Ongom, attributed some of his own struggles to opposition from district Members of Parliament. He pledged his ongoing support for Alebtong District following his political loss.
Alebtong District lost senior leaders such as government Chief, Denis Hamson Obua, Mp for Ajuri, Eng. SAMUEL OKWIR ODWEE mp Moroto, and Dorcus Acen woman mp Alebtong in February, 2026 parliamentary and presidential elections in Uganda.
