Lira, Uganda: A recent report revealing that Lira is one of the dirtiest cities in Uganda has spurred various stakeholders and private partners to take action and promote general cleanliness in the city.

In a recent address to journalists, Emmanuel Akeny, President of the Lira City Development Forum, said a new initiative aimed at creating awareness and advocating for a green and clean environment. Akeny acknowledged the disheartening news of Lira being ranked among the dirtiest cities and placed the blame on everyone for the city's current state.

He urged all citizens to take responsibility for keeping Lira city clean. Last month, the Lira City Development Forum led a group of community members in a street-cleaning effort to encourage residents to maintain a clean environment.

Residents of Lira have voiced their concerns about some of the city's streets, which contribute to Lira's ranking as one of the dirtiest cities in Uganda. Streets such as those alongside the CMike building, currently being upgraded under the USMID project, have drainage systems clogged by garbage. Other affected areas include Aroma Line and the vicinity of the Lira Main Market buildings.
