Lira, Uganda : THE LUO NATIVES|Aiming to reshape the hospitality scene in Lira City, local entrepreneur and business leader Bosco Ogwang Edola has unveiled his plan to build a state-of-the-art hotel right in the center of Lira City.

This initiative comes ahead of the much-anticipated African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027, which is expected to bring in thousands of football fans, officials, and tourists to the area.

The hotel, part of the Maragita Palace, promises a "five-star experience in the heart of the North" and will include over 100 luxurious rooms, top-notch dining options, a modern conference center, and leisure facilities like a swimming pool, gym, and spa. The project aims to be finished before the AFCON games kick off.

In a recent press conference, Ogwang Edola shared his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “This hotel is more than just a business; it’s a way to contribute to the development of Lira and the surrounding area."

He also mentioned that he has secured land and all necessary resources for the hotel.

"With AFCON approaching, we recognized a chance to highlight Lira as a top destination for both leisure and business travelers. Our aim is to create an unforgettable experience for our guests while also boosting the local economy.” He advised his peers against unnecessary borrowing for hotel construction, warning that the investment might not pay off during the tournament.

The hotel’s launch is well-timed, as Lira City is set to play a crucial role in hosting AFCON-related events, including team stays, fan gatherings, and cultural celebrations.

The tournament, featuring some of Africa’s best football teams, is expected to draw considerable attention to the area, making the new hotel essential for providing high-quality accommodations.

Local leaders are excited about the new development, highlighting its ability to generate jobs and boost the economy. “This project fits perfectly with our goal of making Lira a center for tourism and investment,” stated Goerge Okello, the Mayor of Lira City East.

With AFCON 2027 on the horizon, Lira is gearing up to host visitors from around the globe. The upcoming hotel, led by one of the city’s most innovative entrepreneurs, is expected to be a key player in this thrilling new phase.

At the same time, the Ugandan government is building a modern stadium in Lira City to get ready for AFCON.
