Lira City : Dr. Aceng Recognized for championing public health Globally

The Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, has been honored once again for her commitment to public health.

Aceng, who also serves as the woman MP for Lira City, was awarded the African Public Health Champion of the Year 2024 by the African Leadership Organization during a ceremony at the Marriot Hotel in Casablanca, Morocco, on Saturday, February 22, 2025. The event was graced by several prominent African leaders, including Madagascar's Andry Rajoelina.

Dr. Aceng credited this recognition to Uganda's steadfast commitment to public health. "This award represents Uganda's unwavering dedication to public health," she expressed, thanking the African Leadership Organization for acknowledging transformative leadership across the continent.

She also praised President Museveni for his strong leadership and the collaborative efforts that have made this achievement possible. "We owe this to the strong leadership of our President, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and the dedicated health workers who are committed to our cause."

As the Woman MP for Lira City, Dr. Aceng dedicated the award to Uganda's frontline health workers, community health workers, and her team at the Ministry of Health, who tirelessly work to protect public health. She reaffirmed Uganda's commitment to enhancing primary and tertiary healthcare beyond just responding to outbreaks.

"I also dedicate this award to my family, the people of Lira City, and the over 45.9 million supportive Ugandans," said the health minister.

In July 2024, Dr. Aceng received an international award for her exemplary leadership during the fight against the coronavirus pandemic at a conference organized by Livelihood Development Initiatives International in Toronto, Canada. This recognition has not only brought joy and appreciation but also serves as an inspiration for African women to strive for greatness.
