Ebenezer University School of Health Sciences Launches New Programs to Bridge Uganda's Healthcare Workforce Gap
Lira-City, Uganda– In response to world's critical healthcare workforce shortage, Ebenezer University School of Health Sciences in Lira has officially launched comprehensive training programs designed to produce qualified healthcare professionals for the region and beyond.
Located along Soroti Road in the heart of northern Uganda's bustling commercial hub, the institution is now accepting applications for Certificate programs in three critical healthcare disciplines: Nursing, Midwifery, and Pharmacy. These programs are specifically designed to address the growing demand for skilled healthcare providers across the region.
Currently the entire world faces a healthcare workerforce shortage with rural areas experiencing the most severe shortages. Ebenezer University's strategic location in Lira positions it to play a crucial role in addressing this gap by training healthcare workers who are likely to serve local communities.
"We recognize the urgent need for qualified healthcare professionals in the world ," stated Ms. Lucy Joan Abalo, Principal of Ebenezer University School of Health Sciences, Lira. "Our programs are designed not only to meet current demand but also to build sustainable healthcare capacity for the future."
2026 January Intake Now Open
Ms. Abalo confirmed that admissions are officially open for the January 2026 academic intake. The dedicated admissions team will be available Monday through Friday during regular business hours to assist prospective students with their applications.
In a commitment to making healthcare education accessible to all qualified candidates, Principal Abalo emphasized the university's affordable fee structure. "We believe that financial background should never be a barrier to pursuing a career in healthcare," she noted. "Our fee structures are designed to be manageable by families from all economic backgrounds."

Admission Requirements
Prospective students must meet the Ministry of Education and Sports' requirements for health science programs. The university accepts both old and new curriculum Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) holders with strong performance in science-based subjects, including:
- Mathematics
- English Language
- Biology
- Physics
- Chemistry
Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications early, as spaces are limited and the university expects high demand for these critical programs.
Program Duration and Career Prospects
The Certificate programs typically span two years and include both theoretical instruction and practical clinical training at affiliated healthcare facilities. Graduates will be eligible to register with the Uganda Nurses and Midwifery Council or the Pharmacy Council, opening doors to employment in hospitals, health centers, private clinics, and pharmaceutical companies across Uganda.
