From Politics to Agriculture: The Powerful Story Of Alex Owera Omola, NRM Great Mobilizer
LIRA CITY, UGANDA– In the heart of Lira City, Northern Uganda, a story of visionary investment and community transformation is unfolding. Alex Owera Omola, a dedicated supporter of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and also ex- compaign manager of Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, is demonstrating how strategic use of modest resources can yield extraordinary results.
Instead of spending a series of political allowances, Owera invested the funds into a thriving livestock enterprise, turning a total of 1.3 million Ugandan shillings into a sustainable source of income and a beacon of hope for his community.

Like many in rural Uganda, Owera faced limited economic opportunities. However, when he received allowances on two separate occasions—first 500,000 UGX from President Yoweri Museveni under (state house) for transport, and later a combined 800,000 UGX from a delegates' conference and the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among—he saw an opportunity for lasting change.
"I decided to keep that money and invest it, rather than spend it on immediate needs," Owera explained to journalists at his Albeko Mixed Farm. "I topped up the allowances and started with birds at home. Now, I am enjoying the fruits of that decision."
Building a Thriving Enterprise
Today, Albeko Mixed Farm is a bustling operation. What began with poultry has expanded to include a herd of goats, pigs, and a flourishing flock of chickens. The project has significantly improved his family's living standards.
"The livestock project has given me hope and a future," Owera said. "It’s not just about income; it’s about building something lasting."
The success is not just in the rearing of animals but in the profits they generate. In a remarkable testament to the farm's productivity, Owera recently made a single-day sale worth 3 million shillings to the public.
*A Mobilizer and Community Leader
While he hasn't yet benefited from the Parish Development Model (PDM), Owera considers the initial political support a major blessing. So much so, he has extended an invitation to President Museveni to visit his home and witness firsthand how the funds were translated into a successful agribusiness.
A local sub-county leader, Owera is now actively volunteering to mobilize for President Museveni and Sam Engola for Erute SouthConstituencyparliamentaryseat. He passionately advocates for the President's gospel of economic transformation.
"I tell people that Museveni's message of economic transformation is good for the future of Uganda, and they should embrace it," he stated.
Inspiring a Wave of Change
Owera’s journey exemplifies how individual initiative, when strategically supported, can lead to meaningful change. His success has inspired neighbours and fellow villagers to consider channeling their resources into productive ventures, highlighting the powerful ripple effect of community-driven development.
With the proceeds from his livestock, Alex plans to expand his farm further and educate other youth about the benefits of agribusiness. His story stands as a powerful testament to the potential within Uganda’s youth to turn small opportunities into engines of positive transformation.
