KOLE ! NRM Sub-cty C/Man JOHNSON OCULI Joins UPC, Entered Akalo Town Council Mayoral Race

Lira, Uganda: In an unexpected turn of events, Hon. JOHNSON OCULI, the NRM Chairman for Akalo Town Council, has decided to join the Uganda People's Congress (UPC), which is led by Jimmy James Micheal Akena Obote.

He revealed this change during a press conference held in Lira City over the weekend.

Oculi explained his departure from the National Resistance Movement (NRM), expressing his disappointment with the primary election process, which he claims was riddled with irregularities. He also pointed out the lack of connection between national and local leaders, stating that this disconnect has hindered effective governance.

Moreover, Oculi raised concerns about corruption in the party's primary elections. In a bold move, he announced his intention to run for Mayor of Akalo Town Council under the UPC banner. If he wins, he promises to prioritize improvements in education, healthcare, and market opportunities for farmers to boost the town council's economy.

A loyal NRM supporter expressed worries that if the party does not address its internal challenges in Lango, the UPC, under Hon. Jimmy Akena's leadership could potentially replace NRM leaders in various positions. 

This concern is backed by recent trends, with some analysts predicting significant gains for UPC in the region. The UPC has been gaining traction in Lango, largely credited to Akena's leadership. 

However, opinions vary on whether the party's influence reaches beyond certain areas, with some questioning its presence in western Uganda and the central part of the country.
