Kole, Uganda: In a promising development ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections, former ambassador Joy Ruth Aceng is emerging as the frontrunner to secure the Kole Woman Member of Parliament seat, with voters demonstrating enthusiastic and unwavering support for her candidacy.

Aceng, who previously served as Uganda’s High Commissioner and Ambassador to Canada, has garnered widespread admiration in the region for her dedication to community service, diplomatic expertise, and development initiatives. Her campaign has resonated deeply with constituents who see her as a capable leader with the experience necessary to champion their interests in Parliament.

Voters in Kole have expressed strong backing for Aceng, citing her diplomatic background, active community involvement, and commitment to development as key reasons for their support. Many believe her leadership will usher in positive change, addressing critical issues such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

A local resident, Betty Adongo, remarked, “Joy Ruth Aceng has always been committed to our community. We trust she will represent us well and work tirelessly for our progress.”

Benard Okello from Alito, despite being a member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), revealed his willingness to support Aceng, stating, “Even though I belong to NRM, I am ready to give my vote to Joy Ruth Aceng because I believe she will lead us effectively in Parliament.”

As Election Day approaches, political analysts predict a high likelihood of Aceng’s victory, given the overwhelming support from the electorate. Her proven track record, diplomatic experience, and strong community ties position her as a leading contender in this race.

Aceng remains optimistic about her prospects, emphasizing her dedication to serving the people of Kole and advocating for their needs in Parliament. Speaking to the media at Kole, she expressed gratitude to the voters for their warm reception into politics. She stated that she will leverage her international exposure and connections to improve the livelihoods of her constituents.

A strong supporter of Uganda, Joy Ruth Aceng will first participate in party primaries alongside Joy Atim Ongom to battle for the party’s flag bearer position.

Who is Joy Ruth Aceng?

Joy Ruth Aceng served as Kole District Woman Member of Parliament during the 9th Parliament of Uganda (2011–2016). She was appointed Minister of State for Fisheries by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, although her appointment was later revoked.

While in Parliament, she was a member of the Physical Infrastructure and HIV/AIDS Committee from 2011 to 2016, actively participating in key decisions within the committee.

In addition to her parliamentary career, Aceng served as Uganda’s High Commissioner and Ambassador to Canada from September 12, 2017, until 2024, representing the country at the diplomatic level.

Regarding her education, she holds a Master’s degree in Management Studies and a Bachelor’s degree in Education.
