Karenga Deputy RDC Kedi R Ongodia Drives Stakeholder Unity for Transformative Road Construction Oversight

Karenga District, Uganda : Last week, key stakeholders in Karenga District, led by the Office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), conducted a comprehensive monitoring exercise of ongoing road maintenance projects funded by the Government of Uganda.
The projects are being implemented under the UGX 1 billion Road Maintenance Grant allocated for the Financial Year 2024/2025.
Roads Monitored
The monitoring exercise focused on three major road maintenance projects:
Kapedo Town Council – Komolicher – Lomanol – Kawalakol Junction Road (13 km),Orom Junction – Kacher Border Road (10 km), Karenga Police – Kakwanga – Meris – Morunyanga Road (27 km).
These roads play a critical role in boosting local connectivity and facilitating access to border areas, trade routes, and essential services.
The inspection followed the official launch of the projects in February at Kapedo Town Council.
Stakeholder Involvement
The monitoring was spearheaded by the Deputy RDC and the District Roads Development Committee (DRDC), and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO, District Internal Security Officer (DISO), Vice LC5 Chairperson , District Speaker, District, Engineer for Works , District Planner
Purpose of the Monitoring Exercise
According to Mr. Kedi Ronald Ongodia, the RDC, the objective of the monitoring was to assess the quality and progress of work, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and standards. Key focus areas included:
- Clearing of shrubs, stumps, and bushes along the road reserve.
- Reshaping roads to the district-standard width of 7 meters.
- Proper formation and compaction of road camber and shoulders.
- Functional and well-formed side drains.
Drainage Assessment
The monitoring team also reviewed the status and quality of drainage infrastructure:

The insights from the monitoring exercise will inform necessary adjustments to guarantee the quality and longevity of the roads. The district leadership reaffirmed their commitment to fostering sustainable infrastructure development to improve transportation, stimulate trade, and enhance overall economic growth in the region.
